Donated blood saves lives.
Let’s take care of it, together.
Serving the Community
Since 1936, blood banks have been helping their communities with blood collection and storage for use when needed. Safety is key for blood donations as just one pint of blood can be separated into its various components to be used in its entirety for accident victims, patients receiving treatment for disease, and during surgery procedures. Due to the potential for contamination and possible temperature fluctuations in storage units, these donations are regularly tested for ABO and RH blood types, HIV, bacterial contamination, and more, as well as monitored for proper storage and handling. These risks necessitate the utmost care and attention, with consistent monitoring of blood and blood storage units.
A Partnership in Giving Back
Immediate. Flexible. Complete.
To maintain blood safety, we begin with a 24/7 continuous monitoring system complete with immediate alert notification via e-mail, text or phone. This means a member of the team gets notified the moment a system enters into alarm, granting them time to properly address the situation, and react in a manner that saves the product involved. No more manual checks for temperature readings or the possibility of missing an outage. The automated system will continually monitor this information for you and alert you in real-time through the software located on your computer system.
Whether you have a few refrigerators or hundreds, no two facilities are identical, and customization is the key to ensuring your continuous monitoring system is where you need it, when you need it. For this reason, alerting can be varied by department, piece of equipment, time of day, day of the week, condition parameters, delivery method and escalation protocols.
The flexibility and scalability of the system means that it can monitor any location, from refrigerators to ultra-low freezers, in any size facility. From a small, single facility, up to a complex, multi-location facility, your continuous monitoring system can adapt and grow as you do. With the option to function as a standalone system or a fully networked environment that can simultaneously monitor hundreds of appliances, you do not need to worry when it comes time to add refrigerators, freezers, or other appliances in your facility. The system has unlimited capacity, making it easy to adjust to where you are and what you need.

“The AABB Accreditation program promotes the highest standards of care for both patients and donors in all aspects of blood banking, transfusion medicine, relationship testing, hematopoietic, cord blood and other cellular therapies.”
The AABB Center for Patient Safety, listed as a Patient Safety Organization, or PSO, in December 2008, is dedicated to confidentially analyzing data on adverse reactions and incidents associated with blood transfusion. The goal of these analyses is to identify and communicate best practices and to design interventions to improve patient safety.
The National Blood Exchange (NBE) is an AABB program designed as a nationwide resource-sharing program. Distributing more than 185,000 units of blood and blood components a year, the NBE provides an invaluable service to the blood banking and transfusion medicine community.
The AABB is a nonprofit association dedicated to improving health through developing and delivering standards and accreditations that focus on patient care and safety. The BBTS Standards cover donor qualification, blood collection, processing, storage and transfusion.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website offers a number of Vaccines, Blood and Biologics CBER compliance programs. These programs cover items ranging from the inspection of human cells and tissues, to inspections of testing facilities and biological drug products.
Per the FDA, blood establishments are held to quality standards comparable to those expected of pharmaceutical manufacturers. The FDA will conduct inspections at blood facilities at least once every two years, or more often if needed. The Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) 7342.001 Compliance Program Guidance Manual offers further information on these inspections.
NIST, a non-regulatory agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is a measurement standards laboratory. Their research helps to advance the nation’s technology infrastructure and helps facilities improve their products and services.
Vision: NIST will be the world’s leader in creating critical measurement solutions and promoting equitable standards. Our efforts stimulate innovation, foster industrial competitiveness, and improve the quality of life.
